Shenergy Co, a Shanghai-based power and gas supplier, will take charge of the
power generation and gas supply for the six-month World Expo 2010.
The company signed an enabling senior sponsorship agreement with Expo
organizers yesterday.
Renewable energy is crucial to sustainable development and creating a better
urban life, Expo official Zhong Yanqun told the signing ceremony. She is the
fulltime deputy director of the Expo's Shanghai Executive Committee. The Expo
theme is "Better City, Better Life."
Shenergy has extensive experience and resources in developing clean energy as
well as energy operation, Zhong said. She expressed hope the utility company
would promote sustainable development at the Shanghai Expo.

Yang Xianghai, board chairman of Shenergy, said the company would cooperate
with Expo organizers in constructing solar photovoltaic power stations and gas
pipelines on the Expo site. Yang pledged to ensure a stable energy supply for
the Expo.
Shenergy supplies about 20 percent of the electricity and more than 90
percent of the gas to the Shanghai market. It invests in new energy fields.
