Mio Technology Limited will provide navigational guidance to help
with the huge volume of traffic expected during World Expo 2010.
The company signed a senior sponsorship deal with organizers today to become
the sole navigational service provider for the event.
Mio, one of the leading players in the mobile GPS (global positioning system)
industry, is the first ever senior sponsor for navigation with Expo and the
first Taiwan-based business to be a senior sponsor for the Shanghai Expo.
It will issue real-time information on the city's traffic through its GPS
systems during the event and direct visitor flow by recommending and adjusting
routes over the 5.28-square-kilometer Expo site.
Mio will also provide updated information on the city's tourist sites,
shopping and restaurants.
Hong Hao, the director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination,
said it was innovative to introduce navigational devices to the event and Mio
will work with organizers to create a complete traffic system.
Mio, a subsidiary of MiTAC International Corp a major computer manufacturer,
released the first GPS-integrated PDA (personal digital assistant) in 2003.
