Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng yesterday welcomed a delegation led by Michael Dell, board chairman and chief executive officer of Dell Inc, inviting the company to take an active part in World Expo 2010.

Yu said Shanghai should beef up efforts in developing its information industry further.

"We welcome Dell's establishment of its largest research and development institution outside the United States in Shanghai and we hope Dell would participate in Shanghai Expo actively to showcase its innovative capability in the high-tech field," Yu said.

Dell said he hoped the two sides could reinforce long-term cooperation.
