Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng yesterday met a government delegation from Switzerland, one of the first countries to sign a World Expo 2010 participation contract. The country was the first to unveil its pavilion design.

The delegation was led by Doris Leuthard, a member of the Swiss Federal Council and head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs of Switzerland.

Yu said Shanghai has made enormous development progress due to China's reform and opening-up policy that was initiated 30 years ago. Shanghai will open up further to the outside world in its industrial restructuring, he added.

Yu expressed appreciation to Switzerland for its early support of the Expo. He expressed hope that economic cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Switzerland will expand.

Leuthard wished Expo organisers success.
