China's Ministry of Railways has signed a participation contract
for a railway pavilion the Shanghai World Expo.
The pavilion will show how railways have influenced human civilization and
will spotlight China's achievements and innovations, exploring the role of
railways in urban development and modernization.

Lu Dongfu, vice minister of the ministry, said the ministry attaches great
importance to the pavilion and believes it will be one of the highlights of the
Expo.
Yang Xiong, the executive vice mayor of Shanghai, said railways have played a
significant role in China's development since the first line came into existence
in Shanghai more than 130 years ago.

City officials will provide support for the construction and
exhibition of the railway pavilion, Yang said.
Work on the theme development and detailed exhibition plans has
begun.
