Ladies and gentlemen,
With the unveiling of its mascot, Expo 2010 Shanghai China has achieved
another important milestone in the organization of this great event we are all
looking forward to.
I applaud this achievement, especially because of the values that the mascot
"Hai Bao" embodies. Inspired by the Chinese symbol for "man," "Hai Bao" is
deeply rooted in Chinese culture and reminds us that at the center of Expos
there are the citizens. Indeed, Expos are for the citizens: Countries come
together to build a unique and global educational experience and at the same
time to find ways to deliver better quality of life to citizens. "Hai Bao" is,
therefore, an ideal messenger for "Better City, Better Life:" a symbol that
represents humanity and livelihood through Expo Shanghai 2010.
On behalf of the International Exhibitions Bureau, I would like to
congratulate the Organizers and the Chinese Government for choosing such a fresh
and uplifting new companion that will accompany us to Expo 2010.
Best wishes,
Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales
Secretary General
Bureau International des Exposition
